Lagging off Black Ops - should I switch to wifi?

Anytime I play Black Ops online, I always end up lagging out of the game.

We've gotten a new router (Netgear Gigabit), and I use a wired connection.

It's gotten almost impossible to play....it even does this when I play other games like L4D2. Should I consider going wireless? All of our computers in the house are wireless. Our desktop used to be wired into our router and it experienced the same problems, until we got it running off wifi.

Wired will always be better. Do a network test if there are any problems reply back. If test passes and does not pop up with any warnings you might need to contact your Internet Service Provider.

I would use the xbox's mac address and save it to a permanent ip address in the DHCP Reservations List of the router. Plus I woud save some port forwarding settings for the new permanent Ip address for the xbox which can be done under the advanced settings of your router. I hope this helps.

When you are on XBL are there any other devices using the internet? If it lags you in other games that you play then the issue is most likely your connection speed.

Go to speedtest.net and run three seperate tests; one close to you, one far from you and one in between. Then post the links to the results here for us. Also, who is your ISP?

Check your ethernet cable especially if it is the same one you used for the computer and the Xbox. Could be just a bad wire or connection, change it to check it out. Also try changing the port or plug you are using on the router. Wired should work better not worse.
