Is there a way to name your console?

Is there a way to name your console?  The main reason I would like to do this is for sharing from my Zune software on my PC to my xbox.  It has the option to share with all availale consoles or just specific ones.  However the problem is that me and my roommates xboxes all come up as Xbox 360.  there really is no way to tell the difference. So I was wondering if there is a way to name your console to make it easier to detect.

I know you can name the HDD but as far as I know you can't do the same for a console (I have never seen the option anyway). Saying that I am not 100% though so it would be quite interesting to find out for sure.

I agree with GreyPilgrim. I do not believe we have that ability on the Xbox.

As others have posted on here, I don't believe you can set a name to your console, but do know that every device has a specific IP Address attached to them so you might be able to recognize your console that way.

Are the IP Addresses of devices connected to the network viewable on the Zune software?

If so, you can see what IP Address belongs to your console by going into you Xbox 360:

System Settings>Network Settings>Configure Network = You should see the address there.

hope this helps.

You can only modify the HDD/MU via navigating to:

System Settings > Memory.

From here you can edit your HDD/MU name(s).

But as far as I know it's impossible to name your console, unless you get a marker pen (Which is thick) and write on your console the name of it. (Don't try this, it's more of a comedy joke - Not a good one though. :))

Hope this help,

Brad.

Some complex options that might work for some people:

1) You can set your console to pass a certain identifier to DHCP when it requests an address.  If you do so, and you have access to the administrative interface of your DHCP server (eg. your router), you can sometimes match the device to the specific IP address it was given.

2) If you have static IP addresses and run your own DNS or have the cooperation of the folks who run your DNS, you can bind your xbox to a named internet address that doesn't change over time, like "stanky.miskatonic.edu" or something.  Once you've got that, it's easy.

(I've used both of those methods in the past, that's why I mention them.)
