Is next gen over hyped ?

Just seen a PS3 vs Ps4 comparison video of AC Black Flag. The PS3 does a really good job matching the PS4 except for the water effects. So is next gen over hyped ?

No not at all.

Its early in the Current Gen/Next Gen phase. Compare 360 launch titles to the games now.

Give it 18 months and there will be games that 360/PS3 wont have a chance of running.

Its a cross generation game.  The developers are splitting their time between alot of platforms.  Pretty much the graphics will be similar between generations, with the exception of higher FPS and maybe a higher resolution.  Same thing happened last gen.  See, madden 06, Gun, and other cross gen games.

When developers are working on only the next gen hardware, thats when you will see the differences.

Would probably be best to see both systems side by side rather than on bad quality videos (of which the majority of comparison videos have been so far).

Nope, look back at titles that were cross generation on Xbox 360/Xbox or PS3/PS2, they were kind of similar but obviously the later generation looked slightly better.

No, but launch titles are over-hyped by the fans. They expect to see huge difference right out of the chute.

Give it a few years and then there should be noticeable differences.

i actually think it is right now. if you never play the next gen version of one of these games and assuming the next gen versions dont have any additional content, then you are going to have just as much fun playing on the current gen console.

-

basically right now the only difference between current gen and next gen are the graphics, and those dont inherently makea game more fun. especially with the level of detail we have on current gen games.

-

in time you are going to start seeing bigger differences in more then just graphics and that will be fun.

I still remember Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory on the Xbox looking better than most games on the Xbox 360 for a good year after release.

Isn't every release in the history of forever over hyped? Isn't that the point of the marketing machine, to build that hype?

Not necessarily true, EA titles such as Fifa 14 use entirely different game engines, and pack 10x the animations because there wasn't enough RAM available for those animations, plus more sophisticated AI.

The same can be said for Watchdogs, and I'm sure there are other titles where you can say the same.
