Is it safe to discard Xbox?

My Xbox recently broke (RRD) and I have ordered a new one. I will put the old one on Ebay or just scrap it if no one wants it but I am concerned about my personal details falling into the wrong hands. I will remove the HDD but is that all there is to it? Are all my details stored on the HDD?  Or is there something more I should do?

Removing your HDD should remove all your profile and personal data from the system.

If however you have an xbox that doesn't seem to have a HDD (the new xbox system -- black, 250GB doesn't have one) and you're going to junk the system, you can probably destroy it with a hammer or throw it off your porch until it breaks.  If you really are afraid of someone taking your personal information after that, you can always burn the scrap until it semi-melts, that way people won't be able to get ahold of your information.
