Is It Safe to 'Unplug' Console When Using Instant-On?

I have the power mode set to instant-on so I can quickly wake and use the console during the day. However, I also like to 'unplug' it every night to save on standby power (I actually just flick the mains switch next to the plug). Is it safe to do this since the console is really just in 'standby'?

I'd especially like to hear from Microsoft or anyone who has a link to a page by Microsoft that answers this question.

I was wondering the same thing.  When I turn off the power the console makes a noise which I don't like - it sounds like the hard drive suddenly stopping or something worrying like that.  I don't want to waste power but I don't want to break the console!
