You could also try setting a static IP address so that your router isn't automatically setting the IP address for the Xbox.

-

Unfortunately I couldn't find an official support page for how to do this, but if you look here there is a very good step by step on how to do it: portforward.com/.../staticip-xbox360.htm

-

You can always reset the network settings back to factory again should this not help.

i really dont know what i did but out of hope i decided to try plugging the end that was into my xbox into the router. and vise versa and it seems to have fixed it. Im very happy for the assistance but a little awestruck by how simple it was.

Hey mate, have you tried restoring the factory defaults of the network settings on your console? This should hopefully clear up IP address issues.

-

1.Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings and then select System Settings.

2.Select Network Settings.

3.Select Wired Network if you are prompted to do so.

4.Select the Additional Settings tab.

5.Select Restore to Factory defaults.

-

After that try retesting your Xbox Live connection.
