Hey there Reality, unfortunately Xbox live does not support 3G connections, and should you get it to work you will experience lag.

Whether you're connecting from your cell phone 3G connection or anything else doesn't matter, unfortunately they do not support that type of connection.  Apologies.

Hey there Reality! I understand you are trying to connect your console to LIVE via a wired connection to a PC with a 3G wireless dongle, correct? As Girdle pointed out, we don't officially support 3G connections, so I can't guarantee that we can get you up and running here, but I'll see what we can do for you.

As you mentioned, starting from scratch would be a good start here. Try setting up your PC connection again using this article: Connect your console to Xbox LIVE using a Windows computer. Once that's done, reset your console's network settings and then try setting up a new wired connection. Let us know how that goes, thanks!

Reality, you may get it to work, but you will experience issues, especially if you host a game.  And contacting xbox support over chat or the phone would not be able to help you because they aren't allowed to support those issues.

Though I will say it's very rare that you will get it to work, especially everytime a new update comes out.
