Interent Connection is Dropping for Live

Just purchased the Xbox 360S Gears of War 3 Limited Edition console.

Upon setting it up, etc.

I come across an issue that is very obvious. The Xbox Live internet connection constantly slows to a trickle, DLs that take 5 seconds, take 10 minutes, playing Call of Duty online when shooting I lag and bullets are never fired until a few seconds later when the should be instantly hitting targets.

Basically upon restarting the Xbox (after keeping it off for at least 1 minute), Xbox live runs fine until about 5 minutes later, then the internet speed slows to nothing. Downloads will jump from 1% to 15% to 45% in less than 30 seconds, then out of nowhere it freezes on 1%-50% and after about 10 minutes of not moving it comes up with an Xbox Live cannot connect error and cancels the download (but I still stay logged into Xbox Live).

In a game I have 3/4 bars for a wireless connection.

I also believe this is an issue with the adapter because my extremely old 1st Gen Xbox with a regular white external adapter NEVER had any issues with Xbox Live.

I am not at my house right now but I will fill in everything I can remember.

After you run "Test Xbox LIVE connection" and click on "More info", what is the exact message shown on screen? I get no issue connecting to Xbox Live, just internet speed.

If you need any additional info, I will answer what I can, at least until I get home.

I'd be surprised if the adapter is connecting in Wireless N mode as WEP isn't official supported on Wireless N. Can you try changing your wireless security to WPA2-PSK(AES) to start with? It has nothing to do with lag but I would do that first anyway (this will mean any other wireless clients will also have to reconnect to your network using WPA)

I would then also look at experimenting with different wireless channels to see if that helps

Ok... Finally got home.

My PW is actually with WPA2-PSK(AES). So I was wrong about it being WEP.

Have not experimented with different channels though...

Ok thanks, please try different wireless channels and ensure anything that might interfere with the wireless signals are well away from the Xbox and router (e.g. cordless phones, video digisenders etc etc)

Download a wi-fi program like inSSIDer or similar and search for wireless networks in your area to see what channel they use and pick a wireless channel for your router that is at least 3 or 4 numbers away from your neighbours networks.

Ok well the Channels are set at 1 and 5. My laptop and Xbox and Iphone do not pick up any extra wireless signal besides my own.

I will check it again when I get home and change the wireless channels then.

Ok I had InSSIDer run for about 2 hours at my house and it has not picked up 1 other wireless network. So mine is literally the only one.

Nothing... It seems to drop only when I try to download stuff.

Other times it is completely random when I am playing games...

But 90% of the time with downloads it will freeze the download for 5-10 minutes without progressing then disconnect me from XBL.
