Instant-On power mode and constant HDD activity

Hi, I am currently using the instant-on power mode, and noticed that in this mode the HDD is ALWAYS running. It doesn't stop or spin down at all. You can check by your own simply by approaching the ear, you can hear a periodic "clac, clac, clac...".

I think while it is not downloading anything there is no need to keep HDD spinning, for saving energy and HDD mechanical parts.

Please revise this and fix it with an update.

That really quiet ticking noise that you can't hear unless you stick your ear on the console? That's not the HDD. HDDs don't make a ticking noise like that.

It is from the console. I am sure is HDD activity, after much time hearing 2,5" HDD from laptops. The fan runs for a while and then stops. But the HDD never stops, if you approach the ear you can always hear some HDD activity. But no real activity, as it sounds a millisecond, stops, a ms, stops...like it has nothing to do but doesn't spin down.

Of course HDD needs to spin all the time (when in instant-on mode). If not how could the whole console check for update, download content?

I believe it is working exactly the same way as TV TUNER with PVR (if you have one, listen to it - yes, HDD is working all the time)

OK thanks, but then:

- Good news: it is the normal behaviour.

- Bad news: wear of mechanical parts. It should spin-down after X time of doing nothing, like any PC, and if it checks an update or needs to download anything, the spin-up again. It is a 8GB RAM device with complex OS, it should be capable. There is no need of HDD activity for network activity if it is only checking and not downloading.

A bit disappointed about this.

No, it is not the fan, I confirm the fan stops. It is HDD activity and it looks to be the normal behaviour.

The ear and the console are one, or almost, 2,5" HDD are very quiet. But is not because the sound, is for the wear of mechanical parts like the HDD.
