Improving picture quality on old Xbox

I have an old Xbox, pre-2007 model that I am trying to play on a HDTV.

The console has no HDMI port, and so whilst I have been using the component cable, I have found the picture quality to be much more grainy than using a HDMI.

Is there anyway I could improve the quality?

Thanks.

are you talking about the non 360 Xbox with the 4 controller ports on the front?  if so sorry to say the max resolution you can get out of that console is 480p with component so there is nothing you can really do to make the picture clear if you are playing on a HDMI HDTV when hooked to component.  the ONLY thing I can suggest is turn on the system without  a disc in it (or the tray ejected) and go into the settings and select video/picture and make sure you have the 480p checked off and 16x9 enabled (I am doing this from memory as of the moment my 12 year old xbox is NOT hooked up to my 40" HDTV).

Hi,

Sorry no I am not talking about the original Xbox, I'm referring to the Original model Xbox 360, the one that shipped with the 20gb hard drive.

You can improve the image by going to component or VGA cables in order to get an HD output. You would just need a compatible TV, monitor, or projector and the appropriate cable for the Xbox 360. S-Video is a slight improvement over composite.

I've checked and my TV does have a VGA connector, would I be able to achieve the same quality as HDMI this way?

Yes, you would get an HD output equivalent to HDMI on the 360. I use this ot connect my 360 to my projector.
