Important Information on Console Bans

Since there has been a recent spike in posts regarding console bans, I though I could just help remind everyone of the rules.

Console bans at  100% accurate and cannot be undone. Once banned, it says banned. Period, dot, the end. There are multiple reasons a console could be issued a perma-ban. The Terms of Use explains everything. Once you agree the Terms of Use, you agree you will NOT do any of the following actions. This gives Microsoft the right to ban your console from Xbox LIVE connection.

If you bought a console from Gamestop then take it home to find out its banned, consult Gamestop about your issue. Same goes for anywhere else you buy a console used. Consult the original owner.

Why hasn't this been stickied? I know some people will just ignore it and post anyway because they don't like the answers in this thread but every little helps.

I asked one of the Moderators about that before and you pretty much hit the nail on the head Vernier.

However, feel free to add my link to your sig to direct the sudden influx of people towards some answers.

I'd ask the moderators to correct the formatting if the thread is pinned. As it is the wall of text could put off the people it is intended to help from reading it.

Top guide however, though I'd throw in the code of conduct for good measure Xbox LIVE Code of Conduct - Xbox.com :P

As an aside has anyone got any idea of why there was a sudden influx of console bans? I've seen a few people who have been console banned also bleating about their marketplace theft ban. Possible link maybe?

I knew about that one but I'm wondering aloud if there's a link between the two events considering how close together both waves were and how some people who were console banned also mention their accounts were banned for theft.

EDIT: This guy for example - http://forums.xbox.com/xbox_forums/xbox_support/f/7/t/67970.aspx?PageIndex=2 - and there's been a few people posting in account suspensions with similar stories (console banned and account banned for theft).

Thanks VoteDC but the CoC is in there.  However I don't know why the formatting is not working for me suddenly.  It's really strange.

Most of the people who have been banned don't realise that it's not just modifications that can lead to a console ban, indeed, gross violations of the ToU can also lead to a ban.

onyx. The Code of Conduct is only mentioned in the tags, which does not lead to the actual CoC. Though the Terms of Use page linked to does have a link to the CoC, it is always wise to provide a direct link in a guide.

Nope, I have the same link you have provided in this paragraph:

Account suspensions are temporary but bans are permanent.  If you've had your account banned you are welcome to create a new one.  Just make sure that you abide by the ToU and CoC for xbox live to ensure that you do not get banned again.
