I can't connect to a friend

Me and my friend can connect to everyone else we online but we can't connect to each other even though we could last night. We built a MINECRAFT world together and now we can't work on it because of the servers. Is there anything we can do? I have reset my Xbox, reset my modum, redownloaded my Xbox profile. Everything! It sucks. Help please! We are good friends that have played together for a long time and this has never happened.

This sounds like a NAT issue. You and your friend should test your xbox live connection using the following steps:

1. Test Xbox Live Connection:

2. Turn on your console, press the Guide button on your controller and browse to the far right tab.

3. Select System Settings

4. Select Network Settings

5. Select either the Wired Network or Wireless Network you are connecting to

6. Select Test Xbox Live Connection

If the NAT says open for both of you, try connecting again. If it says either "moderate" or "strict" then you would have to open it. Try these steps for opening your NAT.

It sounds like you or your friend may have a moderate or strict NAT. I would recommend that you and your friend check your NAT status by running a network test. You can do this by hitting the guide button going over to settings then clicking on System Settings / Network Settings / Select the network your on and test xbox live connection. If you don't receive a error message about NAT then your NAT is open and get your friend to try it. If one of you do get the error I would recommend using portforward.com/.../default.htm or forums.xbox.com/.../157383.aspx to solve NAT troubles

Some NAT problems are subtle and don't appear in the Test Xbox Live Connection test. Most likely there's a port blocked... ports can be blocked in your router, modem, or at your ISP. Since the Xbox 360 uses different ports than PCs & Macs use, you can't see the effect of a port blockage except on the Xbox. A sequential power cycle is the first step in clearing a port blockage:

1) turn off the Xbox then

2) unplug the power from the router (Some folks have a combination modem-router AKA 'gateway'. If so, skip step 3).

3) unplug the power from the modem.

4) Wait at least 30 secs then replug the modem (or gateway) power.

5) Wait 'til the light on the front of the modem (or gateway) which says ONLINE, READY, CABLE or DSL is on solid (not flashing), then plug in the router. If you have a gateway instead of a modem and router, then when that light says it's ready, skip step 6.

6) Wait until the WiFi light on the router is on; you may not use WiFi, but it's still a good indicator your router is finished booting up.

7) Turn on the Xbox.  For more background on Ports, see whatismyipaddress.com/port
