How to turn off chat through TV speakers?

Please help. This is driving me mad. There must be an easier way than manually muting each player every time. I tried turning off chat through kinect. Didn't help...

Why is the Xbox One's setting such a complete mess compared to the 360?

You should be able to just turn chat off as well in each game that you play. Yes, Microsoft does need to add more settings for chat preferences and the system in general

What I would do is just connect your headphones.  That should stop the sound coming from your TV speakers.  That should help for the meantime until Microsoft adds more options to the settings.  I know what you mean about the settings being a mess.  They have so much to fix and unfortunately I don't think most of these patches will be out until well into next year... Just have to wait, I guess.
