how to get audio through receiver AND headphones

I have an xbox 360 hooked up to my AVR (Denon 890) via HDMI. The xb360 outputs dolby digital.

I have a normal set of headphones (not the xb360 headset) that I want to use occasionally as well.

So, I need a setup that will still have my 360 hooked up to my Denon 890 via HDMI, outputting dolby digital, while at the same time being able to utilize my headphones. Where do I plugin the headphones if they are only stereo? How do I get audio to both my receiver and headphones at the same time? If I plug in the headphones to my receiver, then it does not send audio to the speakers. I do not want this.

Also, a related question, I bought the SteelSeries sound mixer thing, but it does not work. Are there any other similar devices that will let me use my normal headphones with the xbox 360 controller?

You can purchase a Xbox 360 HDMI & Audio Dongle for around $5 that will let you get HDMI out and add standard audio outputs for headphones.
