How does Gamertag migration work?

So my country / location wasn't correct and I made a new Windows Live ID and used it to make a new Xbox Live account with correct information. However, that new account now has a Gamertag assigned to it (the random one you get). If I log into my old account on the Xbox, and link the Gamertag to the new Windows Live ID, will it replace the Gamertag that was automatically assigned to me? I want to make sure I have the Gamertag on the account with the correct information without having to pay 10$.

You would have to free the GT you want from your old account for 800pts.

If that was the one you wanted.

But you can select a new GT for free for the new account.

Really? That's just plain stealing! I have a better idea. I simply lie about my details since I won't ever give these thieves any of my bank account / credit card details. 800 points... hmpf!

Fraudulent sign-up/account creation is against ToU.  Doing so can result in the loss of an account if it were ever stolen.  I mean, I can't stop you from doing what you want to do, but it's just a friendly heads up.
