I contacted MS support about this and was told that it is "objects interfering that cannot be seen" and that it wasn't a problem with the hardware. I assume that the rep means that somehow plugging in the headset is causing my house to magically generate
the exact wave pattern to cancel out the controller's signal... needless to say, I'll be contacting them again,
