HDMI not working

Hi guys. My HDMI lead has recently stopped working for my Xbox 360. I know the cause but am unable to find a solution.

The problem started when I tried to plug my xbox into my pc monitor (using the HDMI lead but with a DVI adaptor on the end). It didn't work, and when I've plugged my xbox 360 back into the TV it was originally in (just with the HDMI lead obviously, no DVI adaptor), it now doesn't work on the TV either - just a blank screen.

I have tried with a different HDMI lead (which I know for certain works), no luck.

I have also tried turning the xbox on without the HDMI lead plugged into it, and then plugging the HDMI in once the xbox has fired up, no luck either!

I have tried using the non-HD lead to plug the xbox into the TV, and it works fine (although a shockingly bad picture, can't remember standard definition being that bad!). So that confirms the xbox is working.

It seems that when I tried to plug the xbox to the monitor via the HDMI lead/DVI adaptor, this may have caused a setting to change on the xbox, which has made it no longer be able to connect to the TV via HDMI??

Any help much appreciated,

Ryan

Have you tried this?

  1. Turn off the console.
  2. Turn on the console.

Note If you are using an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, turn on the console by using the Guide button on the controller. Make sure that you use the player 1 controller when you do this. The player 1 controller will have the upper-left light illuminated.

  3. As the console starts, on the controller, press and hold Y while pulling the right trigger. The display settings are reset to the default settings, and then the console automatically restarts.

I've heard of other issues with HDMI connections being solved by turning off the 'display discovery' under the 'display settings' and restarting the console. Can't hurt to try.

I have heard of this but there is no 'display discovery' setting in the display settings menu. Pulling my hair out over this now!!

although the HD menu in display settings is greyed out (I guess because the only way I can connect to the TV at the moment is thru the AV lead). Is the display discovery setting found in the HD menu??

Hi jokermate,

There's a few things we can try to troubleshoot the console and related devices.

1. Could you try a different HDMI cable?

2. Could you try it with a different HDTV?

3. Could you try a component cable connection and see if that works?

Let us know when you've exhausted these options and we can go from there. Thanks!

@Mister Iffic He has already tried all of what you have said stated in the original post.

@Jokermate

With your HDMI Cable plugged in try this:

Hi!
Try doing the following:
Power the console on using your controller and wait a minute to be sure the console reaches the dashboard. Do any up/down/left/right using the dpad. (the plus looking thing on your controller)

1. Up once

2. Right six times

3. Down once

4. Press A 4 times

5. Up twice (Note: If you get no display try starting over and up three or four times )

6. Press A Twice

7. Down once

8. Press A

@Sage to rage - just tried that, didn't work unfortunately.

I have just tried my xbox on my housemate's HD TV via the HDMI lead, and it worked perfectly! Then brought the xbox back into my room, plugged it in, and it DOESN'T work!! No picture or sound whatsoever! What the hell!!
