HDMI and the original videocable??

Hi Xbox forums.

I'm going to buy a LED monitor for my Xbox 360: http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=599919&reviewPage=3#info (A swedish site)  model: BenQ LED G2222HDL

The monitor only has a DVI input. I also want the sound but not to the screen, to my computer speakers/headset.

And beacouse DVI doesn't include sound I want to plug in a HDMI -> DVI and the original videocable in my Xbox at the same time. I seen people modded the original videocable (taken away the plastic cover) I will use the red and the white soundcable to plug in to my speakers. Will this work? Please help..

(Yes, I'm aware of some grammarfails, I'm just tired)

I wouldn't recommend altering the cable.

Which 360 do you have, the new 360 S with the optical output, or the original model?

As you have a 360 S, an optical to digital converter is the way to go. They're inexpensive ($25 or so) and avoid the problems of sending mixed signals to the console about which video output is active.

The question is why do you want sound out of the HDMI?

-

I'm assuming you want the best sound quality possible but unless you have a high end surround sound system/headphones, I'd recommend you use a TOSLINK cable or if you're only using stereo speakers then use the white/red cables.
The question is why do you want sound out of the HDMI?
He doesn't. He wants to know how to get sound in general from the 360 when using an HDMI to DVI cable to hook his 360 to a computer monitor.

DVI doesn't handle audio.

So I found an optical to digital converter. (Optical to Coaxial RCA) www.amazon.com/.../ref=sr_1_12

Can I make the coaxial cable in to a RCA or 3.5mm and make everything work?
So I found an optical to digital converter.
That's an Optical to Coaxial adapter. Both Optical and Coaxial are digital for sound, it's just a question of if you're using light or electricity.

What you want is either the Mad Catz Headphone Adapter or a digital to analog audio converter. The Mad Catz adapter fits into the AV port and is designed to plug in alongside an HDMI cable. The digital to analog adapter plugs into the optical out on the 360 S console and requires an AC power plug for its power supply.

With either one of those, you'll then need a cable to get from the RCA jacks to the computer audio input.  If you want to plug stereo headphones into the 360 directly, you'll want an RCA plug to mini jack cable.
