Having trouble transferring files from one HDD to another.

I just got a new 60gb HDD for my xbox and I'm attempting to copy the files from my older HDD to it. I also have the transfer cable. No matter which harddrive I plug into to the transfer cable, it will only recognize it as a USB memory device. I tried letting xbox configure the new HDD but it said that it does not meet performance requirements. I've searched everywhere and I'm really at a loss as to what to do here. I know the transfer cable is working because it recognizes the harddrives... just not correctly. (Also I am using official microsoft brand HDDs and transfer cable).

Hey greencon,

If you have followed the steps, and here they are just in case:

1. Update Xbox to the newest update

2. with the console off remove the drive and replace it with the new one

3. Attach the old drive to the data transfer cable and then to the USB

4. Power the console up

At this point you should see a window appear asking what you want to transfer

5. Select transfer to Console

Your Xbox should start the transfer at this point, it may take some time for it to complete.

If this doesn't work I would take the cable back and exchange it for a different one. If this still doesn't work then you know it is a problem with your console

Hi, are you certain that the data transfer cable is an official Microsoft cable, the behaviour you describe is typical of a third party transfer cable.

Broccoli, tiny trees of green goodness.
