Have internet connection but unable to connect to live (wired)...

HI, my cable co. gave me a 1 port wired modem, so i got me a 4 port wired router to connect my notebook and 360 at the same time in order to use the Windows Media Center featured in the 360.

But, while both devices are connected to the router, it only gives networking to 1 device at the time, not both, since im using now the notebook to write this, i cant connect my 360 to live, the message the 360 displays is: "cant obtain ip address from router or modem".

If i disconnect the notebook from internet then im gonna be able to connect my 360 to live with no problem.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanx.

Hey Aeld, let's take a step back. I have this official guide for the exact error code you mentioned in your original post. Would you mind giving that a try, to see if it resolves your issue?

I believe Jemarari is right, found out what I got me was an Ethernet Hub and not a Router, I think this is what is causing the problem, Im gonna exchange the product and gonna keep posting an update into this isssue.

Thanx guys.

Nice to here you found out! :-)

A few tips when you have your router. Because you have a one single Wan IP address, (forget that) you don't have to worry about to setup some things in your modem.

Find out how to get into the interface from your router trough a web browser like Internet Explorer to set up some things. Try only uPnP and restart the router after that.

Now its time to find out if the console is not giving you any failures during the test so always please do a connection test after you have changed some things in your router and if you do change some, console off.  distinct.

If you want more information how to open a uPnP, you can find it here:

If you want to open your network ports manually, you might want to take a look at this page:
