Hardrive question

I saw a post that said you can not remove "old" hard drives from their casings, etc.  I don't know what that means, but is it allowed to move a hard drive from one 360 to another 360...so that you can play on your saved data via another console (like if relatives, friends have a console, but no LIVE and you want to play with your game progress. I don't know if this is considered "tampering".  Thank you.

they are refering to the original xbox 360 hds  being moded opened to be used on xbox 4gig

some people like to use the smaller hds rather then buying the appropiate 250gig hd for the xbox s 4gig unit

yes did you not see my answer really?

"they are refering to the original xbox 360 hds  being moded opened to be used on xbox 4gig"

in otherwords what he wants doesn't apply as it is NOT a mod

you can take the hard drive from one console to another no problem.

There is only restriction to this... the only way you can use the hard drive from the old style XBOX 360 on the new "SLIM" 360 is the following:

Using a USB transfer kit, you can plug the old style xbox hard drive into the new SLIM XBOX.  You can then transfer stuff to the new XBOX.  Note that in this setup, you can't use the old style hard drive for anything other than transferring stuff over.

If both XBOX 360 are the old style, there is no problem, just pop the hard drive off one 360 and plug it into the other one.

Note that disassembling the hard drive unit (to take the bare drive out) is not supported, and is a terms of use violation.

Here's a table:

360 OLD hard drive 360 NEW hard drive
360 OLD CONSOLE  yes ,no restrictions Not supported
360 NEW CONSOLE yes, only for transfer yes, no restrictions

Note that there is no USB Transfer kit yet for the new hard drives, although that may change when larger hard drives start selling in kits.  Also,  it takes a couple extra steps to insert or remove the hard drive from the SLIM console compared to the Old Console, but it is still supported.
