GT already in use?

Hello,

I wanted to change my gamertag, so i bought 800 ms points. I made sure that the name wasn't taken before i bought the points. I tried adding the name and said it didnt exist, and i tried looking it up on xbox.com, and that also said that it didn't exist.

When i try to change it to that specific gamertag, it says it is already taken. I'm not sure what to do now. I still want that name.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

"Looking it up" tells you very little unless you get lucky, because you need to try every possible spacing variant if you really want to see which tag is blocking you. What I mean is, "Danno McK" won't find me; I happen to be "DannoMcK", but there could potentially be spaces between any or all of those letters and you might have to try all of them if you're trying to find out which version is taken.

I can't change my Gamertag (GT).
Just because you can't friend request a GT doesn't mean it is available. First of all, all GT are tied to services like Zune or Games for Windows LIVE. If a GT doesn't exist on Xbox, it might be in use on one of those services. Also, spaces and capitalization are not considered when looking for available GTs. For example, "Major Nelson" is the same as "MajorNelson" is the same as "MaJoR nElSoN". Basically if the service says the GT isn't available, it isn't available.

Thank you. This just could be the problem for that. It's just a 1 word name, but i could just add a number or something to it.

The tag could be in use on another Microsoft service such as Zune.

It could exist with a space. For example JoeBloggs would be seen by Live as being the same tag as Joe Bloggs
