Gold membership

I just bought the wrong membership can anything be done about it?

Yeah, absolutely.  Just call up Xbox Customer Support.  Tell them you'd like to convert your subscription to a different one.  They should be able to upgrade/downgrade you.  If you're upgrading, they should be able to just charge you the difference for your unused time.  If you're downgrading, they should be able to use your unpaid time as credit and send you back the difference.

Did you accidently buy a Music Pass instead of a Gold membership? Or vice versa? If so, contact the support group for the membership you bought (Zune/Xbox Music or Xbox - you can get to both through the contact page. Please note, Zune is chat support only). Let them know what happened and see if they can cancel and refund that. Then you'd have to purchase the correct subscription separately. The two departments are different branches of Microsoft and do not have access to each other's systems.

I'm not clear on your issue. There isn't different memberships, only difference is how many months to purchase at once.
