Getting disconnected from live when i play with my friend.

I have been having a weird problem with xbox live since i changed my internet. I now have cable from service electric. I use to have DSL. Ever since i changed to cable i have been getting disconnected from live anytime my two friends who live on the same block as me join. They both use the same internet provider.

I have attempted to make a static IP address which i thought would help but it has not. I have unplugged my modem for 30 seconds and restarted but that does not work either.

I am currently connected with a Motorola model SBG6580-G228. My connection to my xbox is wired. I never had this problem when i had DSL. I only get disconnected when i am in a game or chat with these two friends. I can play with many other people. Its weird.

Any ideas?

Are your two friends also using your connection?  Also, are you only using your Moto modem or do you also use a router?

They use their own connection. I am connected right into my modem. No router.

Greetings Dgirton!
Could we start with something simple as determine if the address assigned by your ISP is a public IP address, facing the WAN interface on your Motorola Gateway, or if it is an address that is actually private within your ISP's address realm.

Just to rule out the possibility, if your connection are behind a Large Scale NAT (LSN) architecture, could you access your the web-utility interface of your Motorola gateway and see if you can find the WAN/Internet IP address (which is the address assigned by your ISP).

Take a note of the WAN/Internet IP address and go to http://checkip.dyndns.com/

Now, let us know if this 'Current Address' match the WAN/Internet IP address that you see on your Motorola.

I believe i have a assigned public IP address.

They do match.

It begins with "50" which is odd to me. Sorry im not really good with this kind of stuff.

When you say, "they both use the same Internet provider", are you referring to Service Electric, as their ISP?

Could you run a diagnostic test to LIVE and let us know if you see any error related to your NAT's behavior.

Go to Xbox Network Settings and select Test Xbox LIVE Connection.

Try bring your friends to this thread and have them post up their resp. make and model of router and modem and how their resp. console terminates to their gateway.

Thank you!
