Get rid of Gold Membership

Okay, so back in October or November they had the 'Free for a month gold membership' which I jumped all over. Hey, I've never had an xbox live and wanted a taste of having gold. Anyways, my month ran up and now I have to pay for gold if i want live again, but I just want to go back to have the free membership. How in the world do I do that? Nothing is working and when I look for an answer, all I get is 'shut off auto-renewal for music pass' which I don't have. So I am stuck and have no idea what to do now.

Hi SinGoneWild19, please read this link with explains how to cancel your membership. The same steps are for your live gold, or xbox music pass, so that's why you've been seeing that.

Note that the link tells you how to turn off auto renewal, but it also explains that you must contact xbox support if you wish to end the membership before it expires, and provides a link to do so

You need to turn off your auto renewal from the subscription box. This should be where your credit card details are which is where they're taking the money from.

To shut off automatic renewal for your profile, click "My Account" in the upper right of this screen then where it says automatic renewal next to your avatar, select it to turn it off. This has nothing to do with music passes, that is how you turn off automatic renewal on your Gold membership so your CC won't get charged. Let us know if this works!

I have checked like twenty-eight times for an auto-renewal shut off thing, but there is absolutely nothing. I'm to the point of actually throwing my xbox of my two story house and never purchasing another one. That's how annoying this is. I don't understand why nothing is showing up other than the constant choice of playing offline or updating my payment methods when I sign in on my xbox, so unless I'm stupid or blind, I cannot do a thing about this. Should I just call in or is there something else I can do? My subscription time has been up for a couple weeks now so I cannot unsubscribe beforehand, so yeah . . . .

If you can't turn it off via the website, then yes, call support. They can turn it off for you.

The quickest way to get to the right folks in support is to go to

http://support.xbox.com/en-US/contact-us?xr=footnav#0:5:6 

(change US to your country code if you're not US, i.e., CA pour Canada or GB for Great Britain)

and sign in when it asks then click on Request A Call and,

the very next available Billing Agent calls you

which minimizes your lifetime exposure to the (mostly harmless) music on hold.
