Recently and a friend and I wanted to set up a new Xbox account through a PC. We found a nice Gamertag and wanted to create a hotmail account with the same name as the Gamertag, since it seemed pratical to keep all the Xbox-stuff together with that mail and seperated from his personal mails.
But, we had to know if the Gamertag was available and not knowing what else to do, we used an already created hotmail account, which wasn't connected to a Gamertag. We then signed in to xbox.com and changed the random Gamertag suggested with the one we have found and luckily, it was available! Great! .. or so we thought..
We didn't accept any changes but signed out and then signed in to xbox.com once again, this time with the right email, the one who was the same as the Gamertag, but to our big surprise, we now got the message that the Gamertag was no longer available..
and now to all the questions (There's a lot, sorry):
How can this happen? We only made a request for a Gamertag, we didn't chose one? Will that particular Gamertag ever become available again? Is there a time limit or something? Are there some way you can create a gamertag and a hotmail account at the same time, so the "names" are the same and the accounts are linked to each other?
Should we have created the account from the Xbox instead of the PC?
Perhaps MS should reconsider the account creation? I think the first screen you entered should give you an opportunity to enter a Gamertag and at the same time, ask you if you would like to see if a similar hotmail or Live account was available (or the option to write your own). That would be really nice..
I hope some of you have some suggestions as to what we should have done or how to find another way around this..
