Friend Online Notification... Needs to be added.

I'm sorry, but what the heck was MS thinking on removing the friend online notification? I saw that twitter support said they didn't want hundreds of popups because of the new followers option, but then why not allow this to be an option for "favorites"? This needs to be added, and soon. I know it will eventually down the road, but this should of been day one. I never know when/who is online!

super tomtendo, thanks for the feedback.

Twitter support is right: we chose not to have friend sign-in notifications because with really large friends lists you'd have popups all the time. I work on the console team and we're looking at the best way to add this capability. Doing it just for favorites is one of the ideas we're discussing.

Right now the best way to keep tabs on what favorites are doing is to use the Activity app. It's a snap-only app that has two views:

1. Feed - its a mini version of the activity feed that shows up on the front page of the Friends app

2. Favorites - a real-time updated view of what all your favorites are doing *right now*. as people go on and offline, or change their game or app the list updates.

When I'm playing games I often say "Xbox, snap Activity" ...look at the favorites list or feed quick, then "Xbox, unsnap". It's really fast with your voice. Depending on the game, i'll also just leave Activity snapped, too.

Keep the feedback coming!

Thanks for the response, but this definitely needs to be supported soon. I shouldn't have to snap activity feed to see who came on. Xbox Live social has always been #1, but it almost went backwards (so far) in this gen.

I agree with super tomtendo. Xbox Live was always number one in terms of social interaction and now it's just plain inconvenient. I can understand not wanting a flood of pop-ups every time someone logs on, especially with the amount of friend space allotted to users this gen, but to have NONE is not the answer. I support the idea of pop-up notifications for favorites. I hope this is fixed soon.

No problem. We had a good debate within the team when we were building these features -- some folks don't mind the interruption of a friend sign in notification over a game/movie/app/etc and some people absolutely can't stand it. We had to go with one direction for launch, but your feedback will help us support the 'notify me' approach, too.

We want you to have an awesome social experience on Xbox One - our launch day features are just the beginning. Please keep sending feedback as you use your new console more!

Also, Highlife. What's the deal with having to Join Party then TURN ON PARTY? I wouldn't join a party if I didn't want it on? Why the extra button?

By turn on party do you mean needing to turn on party chat?

Yes, when I join a party or even start my own, I have to "turn on" party chat. Rather a pointless extra button... No one joins a party without wanting to talking...

Surprisingly there are many people who do. During the beta we started with party chat on automatically and many people weren't aware that they were immediately broadcasting everything they were saying. So the team made the call to turn it off by default for launch. I'll pass your feedback on to the Party app team - there are several posts in the forums on this topic.

Thanks again.

Turning on notifications for just favorites is the best idea.

+1 to the notification when a 'Favourite' friend comes online. I didn't know my brother was on Xbox until he randomly joined my party.
