free month of Gold with new account

I just created a new gamer profile for the used xbox i was recently given as a christmas gift.  I was told that once i create a new account i would be given a free month of xbox live gold.  During the creation process i agreed to join xbox live and i chose to upgrade later when prompted to pay for xbox live gold.  I surfed around the web and a couple people said that i should have recieved the free month following the process i mentioned... so i got on halo reach and tried to get on matchmaking but it told me i could not do that unless i had a gold membership. Not sure whats up with this.  Any help?

Since The xbox was used, I believe there is a certain number of times you can create profiles that get gold membership. Maybe the previous owner used them all....

Hey there Anusaurus - each new console comes with 3 one-month Gold Trials for new accounts created on the console. It sounds like you did everything right! If you didn't get the prompt, however, that means the previous owner has used all of those trials already.
