failed connection to live,intermittent problem.

I cant connect to xbox live 95% of the time and when it does and i go on cod black ops it fails to connect to the server.

ive contacted suppport and done everything they suggest, forwarded ports, changed mtu value all with no effect.

ive tried a brand new ethernet cable with no effect.

i just keep getting the same message.

there was a problem while trying to sign in, try again. or contact support.

only other message when testing the connection, one saying turn of my modem for 30 secs and back on. tried it. no joy

also another message says open port 3074, done that still no joy.

My console and this modem/router has work perfect for over a year with no grief, but for the last five days the problems have slowly become worse to the point of not being able to connect at all.

Hi,

Ensure your Xbox ip address is set to auto and that UPnP is enabled on the router. If that does not work turn off UPnP and set up a static ip address and follow these instructions:- portforward.com/.../Xbox_Live_360.htm

If you could check out this post, forums.xbox.com/.../9.aspx , answer the questions that it's asking about your set up and post those answers back here we'd be able to help a lot more.

Also if you could run a test at speedtest.net and a test at pingtest.net and post those results back as well.

Have you tried resetting your router to factory defaults? Theres usually a button somewhere that needs to be held in or a tiny button that needs to be pushed in with something small (a pen nib for example) it may be something as simple as a router firewall issue. Another thing worth trying is putting your x box outside the routers firewall (into the routers DMZ) theres plenty of how to's on the net for this
