external sleep timer?

Would it be bad if I used an external sleep timer on an xbox?
Like the ones that people often use for holiday decorations and lights.

Would it do anything bad to the console to be turned off in this fashion multiple nights a week?
I'm basically looking to use Netflix before going to sleep, so I'd make sure there isn't a disc in it.

I suppose this would be like switching the console off at the wall socket instead of powering it down.
I would be a little reticent to do that myself but I guess its your choice to try it.

As far as causing damage goes I am not certain, but surely it would be better for the console to switch it off in the correct manner.

We recommend turning off the console via the power switch, the option to do so via the dashboard or the Guide, or by using the Auto-Standby feature from within Console Settings. There, you can choose 1 hour or 6 hour times. :)
