Error E66 (one red light) while installing new update May 2011

Hi,

when i do the update on my older xbox 360 i get the e66 error with single flashing red light at the front of the console close before the setup is finished. when i turn the console back on and don't do the update it does work without it, but that obviously won't get me online. e66 is described as a problem with the firmware and the dvd drive and if u get it, then it could be due to the drive has undergone somekind of modification or flashing but none of that happened with my piece.

i already heard about other people complaining about their broken dvd drive after the update, but my update won't even finish. i wonder if other people have also experienced the e66 bug and if microsoft will also replace my console with a new one.

The only people allowed to service Xboxes are Microsoft, if you abide by that your fine. If you don't then its a violation whether its a local indie repair shop or a big retailer.

What happens when you try and update with the HDD removed? Is there any difference?

Ok he may have opened his console, but what about everyone else who hasnt or, had there console serviced at many reputable retailers throughout the world as its big buisness fixing xbox's as there is only a few batches made that dont have any problems. I jus going to cancel my gold membership as i wont be needing that anymore. Never in my life have i had so much trouble with a product. I can safely say ive learned my lesson and wont be buying any xbox stuff again after this experience

Have you ever had your DVD drive replaced? Maybe at a local repair shop?

I'm not talking about piracy or being able to play copied games, I'm talking about the replacement of a faulty DVD drive.

If you have received the E66 Error, it indicates the console has been modified. Unfortunately you will not receive a replacement console as opening the console voids the warranty and violates the terms of use. Your console will never take the update due to this, which also means that without the update it will never be able to connect to Live.

In this case, buying a new console is the best resolution.

error code E-66 is a load of crap. i can understand not being able to modify your console to play burnt games, but to simply replace a DVD drive because one of the cogs busted that move the disc tray is retarded. so now i have to take apart the new drive i bought to take parts out of it to fix the old drive, microsoft just needs to sell all the parts to fix consoles in stores because they aren't going to get rid of tech's wanting to fix their own systems.

That doesn't make any sense, they are aware of this problem it was even announced that it may tamper with old consoles, wtf. You can't win with Sony or MS. Hate to say it, but nintendo has the best support.

So do i have to get an error code to get my system replaced? Mine just freezes on the Xbox 360 screen and stays there. Does this mean I have a legit bricking issue?
