Early 360 having start up issues and sound

I have a older Xbox 360. Just recently I am having to turn it off and on twice to have it load up properly. The first time my avatar looks different ie. wrong shirt, missing things and when started it just states in the loading cycle. I turn it off and on and it works fine. Now every so often when going through the different screens the sound does not sound right. What should or can I do? I do not want to loose any downloaded info or saved games. The hard drive is the old brick looking style.
