dropped connection and jumpy play

I hope you can help. Over the last 2 weeks I have been experiencing dropped connection and jumpy play. Mainly playing in Halo reach, Gears of War 2 and Portal2. The dropped connections occur just as play starts in firefight on Halo Reach and I lose the other players. It sometimes says they have quit and I continue after a short time in the same game. Or it can report that I have quit, then on my own in the game the play is smooth. If I manage to stay with other players the play is very jumpy.

Could you go to Speedtest.net and run a test and post those results back?

Also, even though your NAT appears to be reporting open it is sometimes still strict or moderate and just being reported as open by the router, setting your xbox into the DMZ or equivalent option on your router may help here.

Also, are there any other devices or other xboxs using the internet to download or play when you experience these issues? And how many bars of signal are you getting from your router when you look at the available networks screen?

Thanks for quick response. You caught me napping.

Speed test result: - download=1.23Mb/s  upload=0.37Mb/s  best ping= 57ms

I do have my laptop on and connected to the internet, but this has been a constant for the last couple of months and only been having this problem for the last couple of weeks.

Available networks is showing 5 green bars.

On the Halo screen I occasionally have a warning for upload not being sufficient, but not sure what I can do about this.

Setting the DMZ on the router will need some explaining or would you direct me to the relevant help page?

The upload is the key to all of this actually, without good upload you can't tell the other players what you are doing.

Sorry, got caught off guard in RL there, upload speeds for xbox live should be a minimum of .5 mbps which is going to be a poor connection and 1.0 Mbps which will be good to play with.

Hi,

I a had slightly better experience last night with the laptop switched off.

BT have just informed me that they are upgrading the network next week. So I am leaving any further tweeks until they have finished.

Thank you for your help thus far,

Jude.
