Downloading game settings - Call of Duty World at War

I logged into xbox live tonight and then went into multiplayer on Call of Duty World At War in the vain hope of finding a hacker free game.

As soon as I went into COD WAW multiplayer the words 'downloading game settings' appeared on my screen and I thought "Yippee, they have issued a fix to stop all the hackers".

About 10 or 15 or 20 minutes later, can't remember how long I waited, I am still watching 'downloading game settings' and it looks like my system has hung. So I reboot my xbox nd I can now no longer sign into xbox live.

I have rebooted my xbox several times and have tested all my connectivity. My xbox is picking up my router and is connecting fine to the internet. It is picking up an IP Address and DNS settings from my router it just fails at the xbox live connection.

Nothing has changed on my router or on my internet connection. I have also rebooted my router several times.

What was this 'downloading game settings' - anyone know?

Thank you,
