DNS error. Can connect to network, but not internet.

A couple of days ago my xbox stopped connecting to XBL. I've tried resetting the router and the network settings without any luck. I tried manually entering the DNS, but it didn't work. The network has internet as all the computers still connect. Recently I had some trouble with getting disconnected while playing.

I had this problem the other day, when xbox live is doing maintenance or there services are limited.

Then it won't let you sign in or your sign in will be limited. I recommend waiting until there services are up and running.

Hey there ThinRayzr!

We do need a bit more information which will help us with your issue. Please read: START HERE! And post back in full detail (the bits that are in bold). Could you also tell us by a connection test to Xbox LIVE, where it fails to connect.

Thanks!

Appreciate if you could post up the make and model of your modem as well. If its possible, could you verify if you can connect properly with your console directly connected to the modem.

Let's try set your Xbox's DNS settings to Google public DNS as follows:

  1. Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and then select System Settings.
  2. Select Network Settings.
  3. Select Wired Network or the name of your wireless network, if you are prompted to do so.
  4. Select Configure Network.
  5. On the Basic Settings tab, select DNS Settings.
  6. Select Manual.
  7. Select Primary DNS Server.
  8. Enter 8.8.8.8
  9. Select Secondary DNS Server.
  10. Enter 8.8.4.4
  11. Select Done again.
  12. Press the B button on your controller, and then select Test Xbox LIVE Connection.

Post back and let us know how it goes.
