Disc Drive Issues

Okay so I am having problems with my disc drive.

The disc will either read as Unreadable or when you hit play it will bring up an
error message that the disc needs to be cleaned. Eventually I can get the drive
to read the disc

I will have to eject and close the tray (with the disc in it several times. It
can take 2 attempts to 10 attempts. And occasionally the disc will fire up
right away. I am having this problem with at least 4 different game discs.  For some reason Kinect Games (Yourself
Fitness and Star Wars) seem to exhibit the problem more than non-Kinect games
(Halo 4 and Boarderlands)

I have a Slim box.

I have tried all of the suggestions on the forum and on the website.

The drive will play CD's and DVD's just fine it is only with game discs.

Any and all suggestions or help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Here is the suppor page for that kind of trouble: support.xbox.com/.../disc-drive-solution

If nothing works, probably you'll have to call microsoft and check if you can send your console for fixing under warranty

Yes I tried the support page.  That was the first thing I did.

The problem is not consistant with any aparticular disc other than it happens only with game discs.  DVDs and CDs are fine.  My discs are scratch and smudge free.  There is no USB plugged in.  I have tried removing the hardrive.

There is no patern to when the dis will work or will not.  All I know is if I eject and close the drive multiple times eventually it will read the disc.  Sometimes it takes 1 try sometimes it takes 15.

Have a look in your disk drive and check for any dust as this may affect the disk reader. If dust is present I would recommend either using a duster or a vacume cleaner to remove it. If there is no dust in the drive or removal did not work check out the support pages.

Hope this helped!

Try giving it a moderate to hard tap on the top (above where the Disk tray opens), if you time it right, it will read the disk, but this is just temporary. Call xbox support or get the Disc drive solution

I have the Slim Box and it is about 2 Years old.

I have used a can of air in the Drive Bay to no effect.

I have also tried using a lens clearner to no effect.

The strange thing is it only has an issue with game discs, not with CDs or DVDs.

This is sometimes attributed to the little piece of rubber around the spindle of the drive that grips the disk.  It can collect dust and pet hair making it unable to grab the disk to spin it.  This requires access to the drive itself.  I would contact Microsoft about your options to get the drive to be looked at.  I doubt it has anything to do with your games you are using.

Hope this helps you in the right direction.
