Disable Microsoft account

Does disabling your microsoft account associated with your xbox live account just shut down xbox live on the account, or does it shut down the whole account so it is not accessible offline either? Thanks for any help. :)

How do I change my Microsoft account email or password?

"I want to change my Microsoft account password"

You can change your Microsoft account password from your Xbox 360 console. You will be asked for the current password and you must be connected to LIVE to complete this change. Follow these steps to change your password:

A.Navigate to the Settings Hub (far right on the dashboard) and select Account.

B.Navigate to the Your Information panel, select Account Security.

C.Select Change Password.

D.Enter your current and new password.

E.Select Save Changes.

"I want to change the Microsoft Account email associated with my GT"

If for any reason you want to change the email you have associated with your account, all you need to do is follow these steps:

A.Navigate to the Settings Hub (far right on the dashboard) and select Account.

B.Navigate to Your Information panel and select Account Security.

C.Select Change Microsoft Account.

D.Select Yes once you have created a new Microsoft Account.

E.Enter the password for your current Microsoft Account.

F.Enter the Microsoft Account and password you would like to use.

G.Complete the prompts to save your change.

Additional Information:

◦You can make only one Microsoft Account email change every 30 days (per GT).

◦Your Microsoft Points are automatically transferred to the new email.

◦Before you can change the Microsoft account email associated with a child account, you must provide the email and password for the adult account with parental control.

now if you are trying to forcibily change your child account into an adult account without losing your gamesaves

FYI gamesaves cannot be transfered and if you delete the online account it wont do a thing because the gamesaves are saved to the online profile

using an adult windows live id does not make your account into an adult

deleting an windows live id doesn't do much just makes it harder for you to recover your account

it also doesn't free your gamertag till much later it is unknown when it will be free

if none of these cover your issue please explain what you are trying to accomplish so we can help you better

I do not use my account much, apart from using it on xbox live. I want to delete the account in the future, as I already have a different email address that I use more. Therefore, I am just asking whether my whole account will be closed down or whether it will just be xbox live. Thanks for your reply by the way. :)

Hey there Dinny! The short answer is "no", shutting down your Microsoft Account will not automatically shut down your Xbox LIVE profile. To do that, you'll want to first cancel any subscriptions, or just let them run out. Also you'll want to turn off auto renewal. Then you can remove your payment method and just let the account sit as is.

If you want to reuse the Gamertag or MSA attached to the account, you simply change them to something else and they will be free to use elsewhere.

Please let us know if that covered your questions or if we can continue to help. Thanks!
