DCHP Question

alright ive narrowed it down to this from looking around, plus the first 3 numbers of my ip on the xbox are assigned to 169 and the abuncha other random ones, the Xbox live trouble shoot says to enable DCHP if this happens. If i need to enable DCHP wouldnt none of the other devices be able to connect? there are 3 other laptops and 3 smart phones and 1 ipod that connect fine with any problems, or do i have to specifically filter the xbox through dchp?

Reconfigure the linksys adapter - it is was gives the xbox an IP address but it won't if it isn't connecting to the network.

You should be able to find instructions for how to work your particular adapter on the Linksys support site.

Yeah not many third party wireless adapters are configurable via the Xbox dashboard so they need manual configuration on a PC first, have a look at this FAQ:- www.unofficialguidetolive.co.uk/.../117-using-a-third-party-ethernet-wireless-adapter

You need to enter the WPA details into the adapter and test it works via a PC

ive done that! ive tried everything, its a 5 year old adapter that refuses to comply with the new router. i really think buying the xbox 360s little black adapter would be the easiest way around this

It certainly would yes, first check to see if there is a firmware update for your router and your adapter, if that doesn't fix it I would get a Microsoft adapter yes, or homeplugs/powerlines adapters
