Quite Simply: Why doesn't Microsoft do it?  Max The Curse of the Brotherhood looks like a fun game.  I'd buy it right now if I knew I'd get it free when I got my Xbox One.  But as I plan to get Xbox One within the year, I can wait.  I'd invest more into the Xbox Ecosystem if titles were Cross-buy.

I think the question to ask is if it's a good deal for the dev and for MS. If cross-buy is losing Sony money, it's not a good idea to replicate. I'm not sure Mac and Linux users are enough of a percentage on Steam to make a comparison.

I like the idea, though I also admit that I don't use my cross-buys cross-console. If I played it once, I'm not keen on playing it again in general.

I've bought games specifically because they were cross-buy.  For example, I bought several Zen Pinball tables on the PS3 because they were available on the PS4.  I understand you don't play things cross-console, but I find some games are good enough, or graphically improved enough to make it worth it.  Like Flower on the PS3 to the PS4.  And I've heard good things about Max, so I'd play it now, then play it again when I got the Xbox One.
