Corrupted GamerTag and Gamer profile plus multiple update requirements.

So I have been an Xbox user since the earliest days.  I've had 2 XBOX 360s.  Now I have the less expensive 360s 4gb just because I don't need the storage space.

Two days ago it was working fine.  Now I believe I have some sort of corrupted file or corrupted memory unit.   I went to settings and memory to wipe my gamertag and redownload it.  Well that throws me in an endless loop of updates telling me "A system update is available from xbox live. If you decline, you won't be able to connect to xbox live until you take the update.  Visit www.xbox.com/update for more info.  Do you want to apply the update now?"  When I click yes it takes a split second and downloads an update, then it restarts my xbox.  When I sign into my profile it asks me to download the exact same update.  I have wrestled with this for 2 days.  I've tried other memory devices and tried factory resetting my onboard memory unit.  When I do that it keeps reloading the same update file.  What am I supposed to do?  I have payed $70 dollars for Live just to watch Netlix on my TV and to play Call of Duty with friends.  The only thing wrong is my gamertag which is the whole reason I got into live to begin with!!! 

What can I do that doesn't involve paying Microsoft $200 to repair an xbox that isn't worth 180????!!!!!

I can still play games and watch movies and tv through my attached external hard drive but I cannot get on Live or play online!!

I am in the same boat as you, I have asked this question multiple times but have yet to get a response or reply. I was also asking if maybe the code in the update was malicious just to get people to send in an old Xbox for repair or get people to just buy a new one. Either way I find it convenient that all this happened right after my warranty ran out and I cancelled my gold account.

Same thing I have been dealing with this for a couple of days I have tried everything.  This seems to of happened from the last update.  I finally got someone to admitted from chat support that this was there fault and are working on it.  So I asked worst case if we have to send unit it will we be charged the service fee YES you will.  Bullcrap I filled a complaint with BBB.
