I had an advanced replacement Xbox sent as my original Xbox was making a bad noise from the disc drive while reading discs. I got the replacement Xbox and went to set it up. When the screen comes on to press the Xbox Home button to connect the controller the controller would not connect. I tried powering down the xbox several times and replaced the batteries on the controller. I know the controller works as it worked fine on the original xbox. I used my PS4 usb wire to connect the controller directly to the xbox and it registered the controller. I disconnected the usb wire and now the controller seems to be working wirelessly. I don't know if this is indicative of an issue that will persist or not. I am in the process of downloading the day one update now. I just wanted to post this to document my issue in case it does persist and also this solution does appear to work so it may help someone get through the problem.
