Console freezes while loading dashboard

For the past couple of weeks my console freezes when I turn it on whil e it is trying to load the dashboard. It gets past the XBox splashscreen, but freezes while the spinning double circle is on the screen (prior to the actual dashboard menu actually coming up). I have a XBox 360 S, with just the 4GB of memory (no hard drive). Even after it freezes, the controller still communicates with the console and the Kinect sensor starts up. Also, if I eject the tray while the console is off and close it before it freezes, it will load the game and I can play the game fine (no freezing during the game). So it seems to only be a problem with the loading of the dashboard. Also, I do not get the RROD, the lights on the console stay green. Thanks.

Im having almost the same exact issue, except mine will freeze either at the splashscreen, or the double load circles before the dashboard comes up. Another odd thing i noticed while its stuck at the splashscreen, my controller will go from one green light solid, to 2 flashing alternatively.  Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

To solve this issue:

1) Unplug your router

2) Turn on console and go to system settings -> memory

3) While on the screen that shows your hard drive, press LB, RB, X, LB, RB, X

4) This will ask you if you want to remove the last system update. Select Yes.

5) After your xbox restarts, plug in your router and connect to xbox live.

6) Re-download the system update.

7) Sign into xbox live. Problem should be fixed.

Hey everyone with this issue - if you remove the hard drive, are you able to get to the dashboard, or do you still have the freezing issue?

I'm having the exact same problem, where it's trying to sign my xbox live account in, but just seems to stick with two white circles spinning around.  I've tried deleting my profile but i can't get into system settings, so i can't try to recover it.  i've also tried signing in with other non-live accounts but still no help.  Help Please!  BTW i have a XBox 360 S and the latest update.

I'm having a very similar problem only mine freezes completely and won't do anything, i can't delete the memory cache access anything it just freezes. I'm not paying sixty odd quid for someone to fix it for me when i'm sure i can do it myself. If anyone has got any further thoughts of things to try i'd really appreciate it.
