Good evening all,
I have recently bought a new Xbox 4gb slim.
I'm encoutering problems not with connecting to Xbox Live but just getting my Xbox to connect to the laptop.
The setup I have is as follows.
I have a laptop computer that has a wireless connection to the internet running Windows XP
What I am wanting to do is connect the Xbox through an ethernet cable to the laptop through and share the wireless internet.
When I run a network test it's not getting past the first part. It's not getting connected to the laptop, let alone any further to the internet or xbox live.
I have reinstalled my network card and the drivers and that works all ok.
When I run a network test, just to see if I can connect to the PC, not just to internet or Xbox live I am getting the following error:
Can't obtain an IP address from your router or modem. Now the issue wtih this is that I am not connecting the Xbox through a router or modem. It's just hard wired straight from laptop to Xbox.
I have tried running a 5 port switch and using two cables so it's not just hard wired straight through and this isn't doing anything either.
I am getting these errors codes when I see the status of the message:
X:4000 - 1001
I'm pretty sure I need to be messing around with IP settings on my laptop but not sure where to start. I have gone through guides and tutorials today but had no luck.
If someone could start to point me in right direction that would be great.
