connecting with other users for "parties" with a moderate NAT

I have been trying to fix this all day now. I have a Motorola sbg900 wireless router and it's giving me a moderate NAT error on my 360. I read that it should support UPnP but nobody knows how to configure it. So I go for the next option, port forwarding. However, when I set up a static IP on my laptop I can't connect to the internet at all. I had to change it back.  Any ideas on how I can get this? I can send messages to people through my 360, but I want to be able to chat and play games with them, join parties etc.

Are you referring to not being able to connect to the internet on your laptop, or on the console? If just on your console, at what specific point does the LIVE connection test fail?

I couldn't connect to the internet on my laptop when I set up a static IP, I had to change it back.  I have a friend who is going to help me try dmz and see if that works.

Alright. If you disabled DHCP in order to get the static IP working, then that would be why your laptop couldn't connect. This gateway actually mentions in it's manual how to configure it properly for Xbox LIVE, so please give the following directions a shot :) From page 41 of the SGB900 Manual

Configuring the Firewall for Gaming

By default, the SBG900 firewall is disabled. If, as recommended, you enable the firewall, refer to the game’s
documentation to ensure that the necessary ports are open for use by that game.
The pre-defined SBG firewall policies affect Xbox Live TM as follows:

Low - Xbox Live data can pass through the firewall. No user action is required.

Medium or high- To enable Xbox Live traffic to pass, you must configure:
• Choose Custom on the Firewall > POLICY — basic Page
• UDP 88:88 and UDP/TCP 3074:3074 on the Firewall > POLICY — advanced Page

thank you for responding. that was actually one of the first things that I checked. I couldn't understand why it specifically mentioned xbox live and those parameters, yet it wouldn't work even though that is how they were already set. My buddy got it taken care of in about 2 minutes (he's good with computers, I"m not) and I am all good now :)
