Confused: HDMI & audio..

I'm a pretty good one on finding things on forums but I honestly couldn't find my answer so this is why I'm posting:

I've been using my component/composite adapter for my xbox 360 (old white model) for sometime and been thinking about switching it up to using the HDMI cable, now the part that I'm confused about is if I HAVE to use (buy) the audio adapter that has the red and white with the optical audio ports?

Or if I just get an HDMI cable I don't have to hook up any audio cables from my xbox to the tv.....someone set me straight here....

Thanks

One of the differences in switching from component A/V HD to HDMI is that the HDMI cord is all in one display & audio. Meaning the HDMI cord is all you need to get display, and audio from your 360, to your tv.

Did this solve your problem?

Sorry this didn't help.
