change my console region

I write from Italy and my brother is going to stay in the US for a year.

Obviously he can't live without an xbox for such a long time.

We have 2 consoles so I'm thinking about to send one of them to him.

Can he use an italian xbox in the usa?

I hope he have just to buy a new hdmi cable and a new electric power cable.

Of course I'll send to him a couple of games too, because of the different area DVD code.

Will my plan work out or I have to change it and the only solution for my brother will be "buy another xbox, an US one, use it for a year and then trash it"

Thanks a lot to everyone who can help me out.

you can use the italian xbox in the US if you can get the proper power adapter.  I would probably recommend instead to just buy a spare US power supply for it that would be safer.

You can't change your console region.

There are games that are "region free", and will work anywhere, so if you bought those games in the US they would work on your italian console.

I would say about 30-40% of the games are region free.

Unfortunately, you can't tell looking at the box whether the game is region free or not.

Whether you want to get a new US console is up to you, that would make it easier, but it is pricey.

Did this solve your problem?

Sorry this didn't help.

Great! Thanks for marking this as the answer.
