Can't stream from my notebook to my xbox 360

Trying to stream from my notebook, which has windows 7 starter edition, to my xbox 360. I used the Ethernet cable that came with my 360 to connect the two but when i test 'PC Connection' or 'Windows Media Center' it says 'cannot find IP address, reset modem or router for 30 seconds.' I tried that with no success and several other suggestions they gave me all involving modems, routers, and IP addresses. I thought all that had to do with the internet; all i want to do is stream some movies off my notebook to my 360 via Ethernet cable, is this not possible without a modem, router, or IP? Can I not do this with a Ethernet cable?

i had the same problem a while back, what i did was go on my pc and "discovered" my Xbox on the network. i still cant connect to the windows media player though. i input the code it gives me but it doesn't connect, maybe after you discover and connect your Xbox it'll work for you.

Did this solve your problem?
