Cant play on xbox live

I just signed up for xbox live and purchased a gold mebership at best buy. When I came home and plugged in the redeem code for my profile. When all of that was done I went to the multiplayer screen for Black Ops 2 and tried to get on xbox live. The game says The current profile is not allowed to play on Xbox LIVE. Does anyone have any suggestions to help with the problem I've been having?

Are you sure you redeemed it on the right profile?  This profile is showing as a Silver (free)  membership.  How did you redeem it?  Console or PC?

I've seen issues happen like this all the time. Usually what will fix this issue is testing your connection to xbox live. To do this from the xbox dashboard go to settings>system>network settings> select the network you are using> Test xbox live connection> Yes.

This usually fixes the problem. Lemme' know.
