CANT CONNECT TO LIVE ON MY 360, WHEN SOMEONE IS ON GAMES FOR WINDOWS LIVE

I am upstairs on my 360 with a wired connection. I have no problems connecting to xbox live with my router ect.

My dad plays the PC and when he plays a Games for Windows title (he plays Dirt 2,3. F1 2010) it wont let me connect to xbox live.

If i am already on xbox live it just disconnects me.

I want to know if there is anyway to fix this in router settings or what, or if it just isn't possible for an Xbox and Games for windows game to be connected to the Live service at the same time.

Are you both using the same gamertag?  If so, then you need to be using different gamertags to not get disconnected.

Most likely what is happening is your dad is using "Windows LIVE ID Sign-In Assistant" for use with his games. This will cause your Xbox Live to log out. There can be only one person logged in at a time using a Windows account or Xbox Live account.

@ Asteroth you can't port forward the same ports to two devices, it doesn't work like that

@ Delta as Chimp says are you both using the same gamertag or not? If you you are using different tags can you post up the make/model of your modem and router?

To add something to all the great support allready givin.

Make sure you don't get IP conflicts within you network.

By playing on diferent devices in a dynamic router situation may cause some problems for the future.

Sometimes it works to make your IP adres static on your console and PC.

Solution of this problem sometimes is to shutdown your PC and Xbox 360, then your Modem and Router.

After this start your modem, wait until it completly startet, then activate your router, wait till its completely startet.

Start your PC and then your Xbox 360.

This is a trick that most of the time works with simple problems in a dynamic network.

Good Luck!

Greetz

In a dynamic network where the router controls ip address assignment using DHCP and all clients are set to use DHCP you can't get any ip conflicts

I find it best to use DHCP and not static ip addresses, unless you know what you are doing you can actually cause ip address conflicts by using a mix of both so its best to leave all on DHCP if possible

Hey there Delta!
If you and your dad are not using the same WLID (Windows Live ID) when you sign in on the console resp. PC then the problem is that Xbox LIVE and Games for WIndows LIVE use the same ports for incoming multiplayer traffic. Some routers can't handle multiple devices expecting incoming traffic on the same ports properly. Routers compatible list

The first thing is to make sure your router firmware is up to date (visit manufactures website and see if there is a later version available then your current one). Second, if you router support a feature called Port Triggering use this to triggering the following ports: (check the router manual or consult your ISP on how to set up Port Triggering)

  • UDP 53
  • TCP 53
  • TCP 80
  • UDP 88
  • UDP 3074
  • TCP 3074
