Cant connect, but dont see why

Ok, sitting here doing a never ending loop, test, shut down, test

All i'm getting is go to xbox.com/servicealerts

All that tells me is everything is fine apart from this and it tells me that on my test anyway, so Live is not working then? because everything else is working my end

"Viewing messages on Xbox.com" stands for the website itself. It has nothing to do with the live service. Can you both run the Xbox Live Test on your console and tell us what the error message is what it will give you?
